About 130 MB installed. Your logbook syncs privately through your own iCloud to every one of them, and iCloud is optional.

No. The insight cards, the receipt and statement reader, import suggestions, and trip summaries run on Apple Intelligence, on your device, on an Apple Intelligence‑capable iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro with it turned on in a language Apple supports. Without it, receipts read through the basic text scan and everything else is the same. Siri’s spoken phrases and the entry form’s Voice button understand English; in any other language you type, and every feature is still there. When you do ask Siri, say “CarCapt” in the sentence and stay close to the phrases in the app’s Guide (“What’s my odometer in CarCapt?”) — asked without the name, Siri answers from other apps, and that answer is not CarCapt’s.

No. There’s no sign-up and no account. Your data lives on your device and, whenever you’re signed into iCloud, in your own private iCloud — Sync with iCloud is on from the start, and the app’s Security & data screen turns it off.

Yes. There is no CarCapt server, and receipts are read on your phone, so nothing is sent to us. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

All three, treated equally, in one ledger, including a hybrid’s gas and electricity together, with one cost per mile and one energy mix.

Several ways, and you can mix them:

• Snap a receipt with the camera, or import receipt photos and PDF statements.
• Share to CarCapt from another app, or drop files into the On My iPhone → CarCapt folder.
• Import exports from other car apps — Fuelly, Fuelio, Drivvo, Road Trip, Simply Auto, LubeLogger — charging-network statements such as Electrify America, or any spreadsheet with a date, an odometer and a quantity or cost.

Everything is read right on the device: Apple Intelligence understands the document while a built-in table reader double-checks every digit against the printed page. Re-importing the same document never creates duplicate entries or duplicate files, and anything that can't be imported is listed with the reason why. Each imported entry keeps a Source link back to the original document.

As one entry, at the price you actually paid. Choose the main service, then tap Also done and tick everything else that was on the bill. The cost stays exactly as you entered it — nothing is split or estimated — and every service you ticked resets its own reminder, so CarCapt won’t nag you about the inspection you just had.

Yes, and that’s the point for charging. Put in your starting percentage and odometer while the car is plugged in, then leave — close the app, lock the phone, come back tomorrow. What you typed is waiting for you, and CarCapt tells you it picked up where you left off. Nothing goes into your logbook until you tap Save, so an unfinished entry never affects your numbers, and Start Over clears it in one tap.

Yes. The GPS trip logger runs manually or automatically and keeps a tax-ready mileage log (IRS, CRA, or ATO style by region), tagged business or personal, that you can review in the app, and you can export a CSV of your logged entries for tax time.

Automatic trips start only in a car CarCapt has learned — CarPlay, the car’s Bluetooth, or a cable into its stereo — and only once you actually move. If you’re connected and nothing has started, open CarCapt while you’re in the car: it re-checks the connection right then and starts recording as soon as the car moves. You can always start a trip by hand from the Vehicle tab, and a Journey closes itself the next time you drive from home.

Start and end percentages describe the battery; a home charger bills what the plug delivers, which is a little more — about ten percent on a Level 2 charger. Once three of your home charges carry both the meter’s kWh and the percentages, CarCapt learns your charger’s overhead and includes it in every home estimate, and the entry’s note says so. Type the bill on a home charge with your home rate set and the kWh follows from your rate as you type — nothing to tap, nothing to confirm. A meter reading you type always wins.

It stands your car’s own photo on your floor, life size, three meters ahead, with its live numbers on a small panel beside it. Walk up to it; tap Done to leave. Add a photo of your car first. Open This Car’s Window gives it a floating window instead, which you can pin to a wall, a ceiling, or a table with Pin to a Surface.

No, and that is visionOS, not CarCapt. Vision Pro places widgets on walls, doors, desks, and floors, and never on a ceiling; a widget that has not found a surface shows Apple’s Snap to Surface hint and no data. For the ceiling, open the car’s window in CarCapt and use Pin to a Surface: CarCapt’s own pinned windows mount on walls, ceilings, and tables.

A public TestFlight beta is opening soon. When it’s live, the Join the TestFlight beta button on the home page will take you straight to it.

Delete any single entry (with a brief undo), use Reset All Data per vehicle in the app, or remove the app to clear its on-device data. If you used iCloud, manage that copy in iOS Settings → iCloud.
